Travelling with pets is quite popular these days. Although it has become easier for pet owners to bring their animal friends on trips these days, there are still precautions that need to be considered to ensure that they travel at ease.
Before travelling, make sure that your furry friend has all the necessary documents needed for him to be able to enter a foreign country. Prepare his passport along with a certification that he has had the vaccinations needed in order to control the possible spread of diseases. Each country has different requirements but the most common one is a certification for rabies vaccination. Some countries require animals to be treated first for fleas and tapeworms days before transport while some request travellers to present a government’s or veterinarian’s documentation indicating that the pet is fit to travel.
If you are travelling by air, book a direct, non-stop flight whenever possible. This will shorten the time of your journey and it will lessen the probability of traumatising your pet. Make advance arrangements with your airline and inform them beforehand that you will be brining an animal companion with you. Do not sedate your pet for air travel since tranquillizers have unpredictable effects at high altitudes. To avoid discomfort, make sure your pet has the right size of crate. It must be well-ventilated and spacious enough for your pet to be able to move freely.
In order to avoid unexpected veterinary expenses, you can purchase an insurance plan just in case your pet acquires an injury or sudden illness. This may not be available in some countries so you can just ask your insurance agent for further information.
